Heading into the U.S. primaries, with candidates vying for nominations in the Democratic and Republican parties, Google search data can provide an interesting insight into the mind of the American public. iQuanti, a data-driven digital marketing company, conducted research into the search habits of Americans in South Carolina and Nevada ahead of each state’s primary. The results are interesting.

Donald Trump is the most searched for candidate in South Carolina with 101,220 searches, and in Nevada with 81,960 searches in January. Both search volumes were an increase in Trump searches from December. Bernie Sanders ranked second in searches, with 66,340 searches in South Carolina, a 136% increase month-over-month. In Nevada, Sanders was searched 55,150 times, a 94.8% increase. Hillary Clinton ranked fifth in Google searches in South Carolina and third in Nevada.
